Luigi Lavazza S.p.A. is an Italian manufacturer of coffee products. Founded in Turin in 1895 by Luigi Lavazza, it was initially run from a small grocery store at Via San Tommaso 10. The business of Lavazza S.p.A. is currently administered by the third and fourth generation of the Lavazza family.
Lavazza imports coffee from all around the world, but predominantly deals with Central and South American countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Honduras, Costa Rica and Guatemala.
As advocates of sustainable coffee agriculture, Lavazza have founded ¡Tierra!, which is a sustainable agriculture initiative that operates in countries such as Colombia, Peru and Honduras to improve environmental and working conditions in the coffee growing industry as well as overall coffee quality.
Lavazza credit themselves with the concept of coffee bean blends, as opposed to dealing with coffee from a single origin. At any rate, Lavazza was one of the earliest practitioners of coffee bean blending, which is industry commonplace today. Coffee blends are especially popular and appropriate for espresso brewing.
With a presence in over 90 countries and with over 20 offices in Italy and worldwide, Lavazza can be considered to be one of the largest coffee manufacturers and exporters in the world.
