Keurig Single Cup Coffee Maker – Keurig K60/K65 Special Edition Review
Let me ask you a couple of questions, that will help you answer yourself that question.
- Do you love drinking coffee, or tea every morning, or every time you need something hot during the day?
- How many cups per day do you make? I drink a few cups per day, and every time I need it fresh and hot. I don’t like drinking coffee made two hours ago, that has been sitting in a pot for the whole time. I need it fresh.
- Do you love stale coffee?
- Do you love the convenience of preparing a cup without measuring, or spilling some coffee grinds, or even grinding coffee? I love that, and there is no easier way to prepare a cup that using a single cup coffee maker.
If you own a Zojirushi drip coffee maker or a BUNN Velocity Brew, you know what good coffee tastes like. So you won’t be taken by surprise when you’ll taste the coffee coming out of a Keurig. But with your average coffee maker, chances are you’ll be amazed.
If you are like me, you might want to rethink your relationship with that old drip coffee maker and think about getting a single serve coffee maker. Keurig is not new on the market, but they are definitely one of the best. There are a lot of options, and certainly many great competitors, but Keurig single-serve coffee machines are some of the best, and once you start using one, you realize why all drip coffee enthusiasts love it.
K60/K65 Single Cup – Product Features
Single serve coffee makers are relatively new on the coffee brewing market, but they are very popular, and as a result, there are many companies that are selling single serve coffee machines. Keurig was one of the pioneers, and they continue to make great machines.
The Keurig K60 Special edition will surely impress you with its great features:
- one touch control panel
- chrome accents
- three size options for brewing: 5.25 oz, 7.25 oz, and 9.25 oz
- 60-ounce detachable water tank, which translates into eight cups before you need to refill again the water reservoir
- detachable drip tray that allows you to clean it easily. By removing the drip tray you can use travel mugs.
The Keurig K65 has a set of programmable features including:
- a digital clock
- adjustable temperature
- automatic on/off
- a blue back-lit LCD display
It takes about 4 minutes to heat the water after the machine was off. While heating the water you will see the red LED on, which means the water is being heated. When the water gets at the proper temperature, the red light will be turned off. To heat the water again, for a second cup, it only takes 15 seconds.
For the best experience, you can set your Keurig to turn on in the morning, before your arrival in the kitchen, so that when you press the brew button the water will be heated in 15 seconds. The programming of the on/off can be as complex as you want, for saving energy and maintaining the level of convenience desired.
No DRM, No Capsule Vendor Restriction
This is an older model, and obviously, many people think of the newer Keurig 2.0 as a better brewer. There are a few advantages of getting the newer model, however, the biggest disadvantage is the introduction of the DRM. The DRM system, (digital rights management), prevents other companies to make capsules for their machines.
The K60/K65 is an older model that doesn’t have the DRM system. This means freedom to use any capsule on the market. In my opinion, this is one of the biggest advantages of the model. Even though it looks like Keurig is going to drop the unpopular enforcement system, for the time being, it’s just easier to use the unrestricted model.
Pros and Cons of the Product
Keurig K65 Special Edition Single Serve coffee maker can make coffee easily. You don’t have to wait for an hour to boil water, you don’t have to mix ingredients to make coffee. Using this coffee maker, you can easily brew the hot drink that you want. To sum up the pros: it’s very convenient to use the Keurig. No measuring, no mess, no waiting, and most of all – great coffee delivered with consistency, every time.
Using the K65 coffee maker is an easy and fast way of making your coffee but this comes at a price, that price is reflected in the cost per cup. The K-Cups are not as inexpensive as the coffee beans.
When you factor in the ecological aspect of brewing with a single serve, you start to think at other alternatives. However, Keurig came up with the brilliant idea of using reusable K-Cups, and this is an amazing initiative. Say what you want about the wastefulness of Keurig machines, but you have to admit that single cup coffee makers are the most convenient way of making great coffee.
Keurig K60/K65 Special Edition Single Serve Coffee Maker
One of the best single serve on the market are the Keurig K60 and K65 Special Edition, and the fact that is one of the best sellers on Amazon, tells you something about it.
The K60 Special edition is the mid-luxury brewing system from Keurig, offering a combination of convenience and style for home users. It is a beautiful machine that can make a nice visual impression on any kitchen countertop.
Customer Reviews and Scores
People usually buy the Keurig K60/K65 Special Edition as a gift, for their own use. This coffee maker was rated 4.4 out of 5 by customers on Amazon. Some customers report having used the machine for 2 years and it is still functioning well. Although there are some reports of broken Keurig k65, this is very rare, and the overall feeling is that they are reliable. Well, I had mine for over a year and it still works great. Single cup coffee makers are a great help for those who love to drink coffee but are not coffee geeks. People who need flavorful coffee, consistently delivered, without measuring and tweaking need one of these. On the other hand, if you want to tweak your brew into a “unique experience” every time, this might not be for you since everything is automated.
